We have officially made it to our last week of pregnancy ... how did that happen?
Carter is measuring to be roughly 11 pounds. Yes ... I said roughly 11 pounds. This being said, my doctor has scheduled a c-section for Friday August 21. We are SO ready to meet him and I am SO ready to not be pregnant anymore.
Overall though, this has been an interesting, fun, frustrating, beautiful and overall amazing experience. Between finding out that we were pregnant, to emotional breakdowns, to learning curves, to bodily changes, to endless support, to constant aches and pains, to excitement, and everything in between - I wouldn't have changed my experience for anything in the world.
According to TheBump.com (and my doctor), Carter is continuing to grow despite being so crowded in there. It's so weird to think how freaked out the actual thought of delivery used to make me feel, but at this point, that is the least of my concerns. I am just ready for him to be on the outside versus the inside!
Stay tuned for more details of little ones arrival!

This week we are 38 (ish) weeks pregnant ... but to be honest, at this point, I have lost count. The end is so close now, yet still feels very far away.
This is a picture from our 37 week ultrasound. You can see his face (cheeks, nose, lips, eyes, etc...) |
I am so thankful for this blog and the affect that it has had on my life and the lives of my followers. I am thankful to have a platform to share what's going on in my life and hopefully be a person that others can relate to. That being said - I want to share a story. It is a little long, so I thank you for taking the time to read it!
At our 36 week ultrasound, we were SO excited to FINALLY be able to see CJW! The last time we saw him was at our 20 week ultrasound, so we couldn't wait to see how much he had changed. Terrance, Myself, and both of our moms went to the 36 week ultrasound appointment and were very eager to learn what he was doing in there, what he looks like, etc...
We were called back from the lobby by a new ultrasound technician (side note: we love everyone in my OBGYN's practice, but this was a new face and she wasn't particularly friendly or helpful). She brought us into the ultrasound room and from the beginning of our interaction, we all had a weird vibe from her. She seemed a bit hesitant and as she began to scan my belly, she was very quiet. She didn't share what she was seeing or answer any of our questions. We could barely see his face (the image above was from an ultrasound we had a few days later - I am getting there) We couldn't see much of anything for that matter and all of a sudden the ultrasound was over. A bit underwhelming considering how much we were all looking forward to it. Next, the posse moved into the exam room and waited for Dr. Boon (my OBGYN). She came into the room with her normal positive, friendly attitude. First, she explained that the ultrasound showed that CJW is 7lbs and 10oz. We were excited for this news! Next, she explained that she was concerned that he may have a cleft lip and/or cleft palate.
That news hit us all like a ton of bricks.
Dr. Boon was very optimistic and said that she wanted us to get a second opinion. She said that the babies lips normally form very early in the pregnancy and if there was an issue, we would have most likely been able to see it at the 20 week ultrasound. Up until this point (with the exception of the gallbladder drama) we have had a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. This was super scary news and now we would have to wait a few more days for our follow up appointment. So a few days later, the posse reunited and all 4 of us went to Memorial Hermann Maternal Fetal Medicine for our follow up ultrasound. This time, we had a fantastic ultrasound technician who scanned my belly for over an hour. She first explained that his lips, mouth, and palate all look perfectly healthy (Thank You Jesus). She also explained that he is actually 9lbs and 7oz ... much larger than what the other girl had measured. Overall, it was a much better experience and we felt very good with the outcome.
He is thankfully healthy, we are so happy, and now we wait. Dr. Boon explained that if he is not here before the week of August 17, that we will schedule a date and get him out. Stay tuned.
Through this scare, I am thankful for Terrance and our families and friends. Everyone is so supportive and kind and I couldn't be more blessed.
Xoxo,
Mel

This post is a few weeks delayed, but I wanted to share some of the gorgeous details from my sweet friend Kelsey's GORGEOUS wedding. Kelsey and Bryan pulled a fast one on all of us, and moved their wedding up ... an entire year! Best surprise ever. The bride was stunning, the love was overflowing, and the memories were made.
