Flashback Friday: NYC Dreaming

By Trials By Melody - 8:58:00 AM

A few weeks ago, T and I jetted off for the weekend to the Big Apple to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday!

NYC, as always, was fabulous. The trip went by way too fast, but was full of a lot of really fun things. The trip got off to a bumpy start after I accidentally left my cell phone in our Uber - BUT we ended up getting my phone back and we had a great time!

We started our trip by checking in to the Grand Hyatt Hotel, located directly next door to Grand Central Terminal. The hotel was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay.

Our first stop was the Statue of Liberty. We took the subway downtown and caught the ferry to Liberty Island. It was a little chilly, but we had a really nice time! We even went up into the pedestal of the statue and got to come out RIGHT at the base of her feet. Security getting to the island is insane (think 5x worse than TSA at the airport) but still really cool and totally worth it!

After Statue of Liberty, T went shopping and I met up with Mom, Shelby, Frankie and Harry at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. This was definitely one of my favorite things from the trip.

Base of one of the towers at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

I thought the 9/11 Memorial and Museum was amazing. It was powerful and overwhelming, but tasteful and respectful at the same time. The size of the memorial fountains (pictures above) are bigger than you can imagine and the amount of items in the museum is totally overwhelming and incredibly moving.

In this image you can get an idea of how everything is laid out. The two squares are where the North and South towers once stood and the almost triangle shape in the middle is the entrance to the museum.

Powerful, sad, overwhelming, but really well done.

The next day (Saturday morning) was Karen's 60th Birthday!!!

Here we are enjoying brunch at Sarabeth's

After brunch, Frankie, Mim and I went on the Sex and the City Tour! It was so cool!

After our tour, we finished Mim's birthday with dinner at the Russian Tea Room.

We finished our night with a visit with Raj and an evening out on the town! The next day, we got up and came home! Whirlwind trip, but OH SO FUN! T and I have already booked our trip to go back next year!

Xoxo,
Mel
