Did you miss me? I have been on a hiatus for a month or so because I had a baby! Welcome to the world, Carter! Here is our birth story:
If you're a regular Trials by Melody follower, you know that CJW was measuring LARGE in his ultrasounds. You can read some pregnancy stories here and here. Because the doctors were guessing that he would be over 11lbs, my OBGYN suggested a C-section. So we scheduled my surgery for Friday August 21, 2015 at Memorial Hermann Memorial City. The waiting felt like FOREVER, but before we knew it, our date finally came. Terrance, My mom, My mother in law, and myself showed up to the hospital on Friday morning at 8:30am ready to meet our baby!! I wore my tennis shoes that Terrance had customized for me and had my nails and toes painted baby blue.
After checking in, they whisked us back to our prep room. I changed into my gown, they put my IV in, and we finalized our delivery room playlist on my iPad. Various doctors and nurses stopped by to make sure we were prepped and ready for the surgery and before we knew it, we headed to the operating room. My mom and mother in law waited in the lobby while Terrance and I headed to the OR.
They took me back into the operating room a little after 11am, gave me an epidural, and before I knew it, I was numb from the chest down chillin on the operating table. They brought Terrance back into the room and we cranked the music up and got the surgery started. The feeling of numbness is very weird and disorientating but Terrance and the rest of the Memorial Hermann team were incredible.
Not very long after we got started, I could feel tugging and pressure and knew that Carter would be here very soon. I was told to take some deep breaths because I was about to feel the sensation of someone standing on my chest. It was very intense and indescribable and before I could focus on how I was feeling, I heard his first cry...
On Friday August 21 at 11:42am, Carter Jaxson Warren made his grand entrance into the world. He weighed 10lbz 7oz and measured 22.5 inches long.
Shortly after Carter was born, they cleaned us both up and we were brought into recovery and then into our hospital room. THANKFULLY, we were both happy and healthy!
Over the next few days, we were filled with lots of love and visitors. Carter has blessed our lives more than we could have EVER imagined. All of those things that people say are SO true - how you instantly feel this incredible love for this human that you just met ... yet you feel like you've always known. The miracle of life is exactly that ... a miracle.
From the check-in on Friday to our check-out on Monday, the whole hospital experience was awesome. I was reminded how blessed I am for the experience that we had. I am SO thankful for my health, family, and mostly for my amazing husband.

PS: Carter is 1 month old today! I will write more about that tomorrow.
Feels SO good to be back,
Mel
