Hey Followers!
Last month I decided that as part of my healthy mind, body, and spirit, I would read and review one book a month. You can read that original blog here. Let me just say that I LOVED reading "The Defining Decade" by Meg Jay. In the title of the book it says, "Why your twenties matter, and how to make the most of them" and that is exactly what the book entails.
In a nutshell, the book goes over some important facets of a "twenty-somethings" life; Work, Love, and the Brain & the Body. The overall theme of the book is to take life by the horns and stop making excuses for your self, your career, your love life, etc... She provides all kinds of statistics and research to support the fact that our 20s are the most important and influential decade in our lives and we need to stop waiting on things to happen or fall into place. It was a thought provoking book that really made me evaluate different things in my own life. I definitely recommend it.
Also, here are some amazing and inspiring quotes that I want to share;
"Our 20s are the defining decade of adulthood. 80% of life's most defining moments take place by about age 35. 2/3 of lifetime wage growth happens during the first ten years of a career. More than half of Americans are married or are dating or living with their future partner by age 30. Personality can change more during our 20s than at any other decade in life. Female fertility peaks at 28. The brain caps off its last major growth spurt. When it comes to adult development, 30 is not the new 20. Even if you do nothing, not making choices is a choice all the same. Don't be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do.”
"The future isn't written in the stars. There are no guarantees. so claim your adulthood. Be intentional. Get to work. Pick your family. Do the math. Make your own certanity. Dont be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do. You are deciding your life right now."
So, what book is on deck for September?
I mean, who DOESN'T love Andy Cohen?!
Looking forward to reading this book, falling in love with him even more, and reporting back! Check back in a month, or so, for the review!
Until next time! Xoxo
